  1. Caiaphas did not say this on his own. Instead, as high priest that year, he was prophesying that Jesus would die for the nation,
  2. Judas did not say this because he cared about the poor, but because he was a thief. As keeper of the money bag, he used to take from what was put into it.

  12. So they said to one another, “Let us not tear it. Instead, let us cast lots to see who will get it.” This was to fulfill the Scripture: “They divided My garments among them, and cast lots for My clothing.” So that is what the soldiers did.
  13. But when they came to Jesus and saw that He was already dead, they did not break His legs.
  14. He bent down and looked in at the linen cloths lying there, but he did not go in.
  15. For they still did not understand from the Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.
  16. When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there. But she did not recognize that it was Jesus.
  17. Early in the morning, Jesus stood on the shore, but the disciples did not recognize that it was Jesus.
