Second Adam

The Second Adam is an analogy that compares and contrasts Adam, the first man, with Jesus Christ, whom Adam is understood to represent as a type. A type is a person or event that points forward to a later and greater fulfillment.

Two main passages explain this idea. Adam’s sin brought sin, corruption, and death into human life. In contrast, through his obedience, death, and resurrection, Jesus Christ brings righteousness, healing, and life to humanity (Romans 5:12–21; 1 Corinthians 15:22, 45–49).
