Sharezer

  1. Sharezer was the name of one of the sons of King Sennacherib of Assyria. In 681 BC, he, along with his brother Adrammelech, killed Sennacherib while he was praying in the house of Nisroch (2 Kings 19:37; Isaiah 37:38).

  2. Sharezer was also the name of a person from Bethel who was sent to ask the priests and prophets a question. The people wanted to know whether they should continue to mourn and fast in the fifth month. They had done this to remember the destruction of the temple. But the temple was now being rebuilt, so the people of Bethel wondered whether this time of mourning should continue (Zechariah 7:2–3).
