Textus Receptus

Textus Receptus is a Latin phrase meaning "received text." It refers to a form of the Greek text of the New Testament published in several editions beginning in the sixteenth century, based on a small number of late Greek manuscripts. It became the basis for several early Protestant Bible translations, including the New Testament of the King James Version. Modern translations rely on editions that draw on older manuscripts and differ from it in some readings.
