A tower is a tall structure built for protection, observation, or defense. People sometimes built towers as part of city walls or forts (2 Chronicles 26:9–10). Watchmen stood in towers to look for danger and warn others (2 Kings 9:17; Isaiah 21:8).

The Bible also mentions towers used for other purposes, such as the tower of Babel (Genesis 11:4–9).
