Unclean, Uncleanness
In the Bible, “unclean” can describe a person, animal, object, or place that was not fit for certain forms of worship or community life. “Uncleanness” could result from disease, contact with a dead body, certain foods, or other conditions named in the law of Moses.
Being unclean did not always mean that a person had sinned. In many cases, the person had to wait for a set time, wash, or complete a ritual before becoming clean again.
