mercy, pity, compassion;
1. of men: Matthew 9:13 (LXX) Matthew 12:7; 23:23; ποιεῖν ἔ. (and id. before μετά, with genitive; cf. Heb. עִם חֶסֶד עָשָׂה, Genesis 21:23, al.), Luke 10:37, James 2:13; 3:17.
2. Of God: Luke 1:50, 54; 1:58, Romans 15:9, Ephesians 2:4, 2 Timothy 1:16; 1:18, Titus 3:5, Hebrews 4:16, 1 Peter 1:3; esp. in benedictions, Galatians 6:16, 1 Timothy 1:2, 2 Timothy 1:2, 2 John 3, Jude 2; σκευὴ ἐλέους, Romans 9:23; σπλάγχνα ἐλέους, Luke 1:78; ποιεῖν ἔ.
