Study note

Ezekiel 7:14

When Israel sounded the trumpet in holy war (a battle fought in the name of the Lord), something different would happen.

In the past, the troops would gather quickly. The enemy would become afraid and confused (see Numbers 10:9; Joshua 6:4–20; Judges 6:34; 7:16–22; Nehemiah 4:18–20).

But now, when the trumpet sounded, the soldiers would not rally. The enemy would not be terrified. The old victories would not be repeated.
