Then the devil left Him: Jesus rejected Satan. This points ahead to his later victories over demons (Matthew 12:28), Satan's defeat through the cross (Colossians 2:14–15), and the final victory at the end of time (Romans 16:20; Revelation 12:7–17; 20:2–3, 10).
Angels had already been part of the Messiah's arrival and protection (Matthew 1:20, 24; 2:13, 19). Now they came and cared for Jesus after his temptation, fulfilling the Old Testament (4:6; see Psalm 91:11–12).
