He took on our infirmities and carried our diseases: When he took on the sins of humanity, the Messiah also carried our sickness (infirmities and diseases). Diseases exist because sin is in the world. One effect of Jesus taking our sin on the cross is physical healing (1 Peter 2:24). When Jesus healed people and cast out evil spirits, he showed that he is the Messiah (God's chosen one) as Scripture promised (see Matthew 11:2–6; 12:28; 1 Corinthians 11:29–30; James 5:13–16).
