Some believe this passage predicts the rapture, when God’s people are gathered by angels (Matthew 13:41; 16:27; 25:31). Others think the word angeloi (Greek for “messengers”) here refers to human messengers (11:10; Luke 7:24; 9:52; James 2:25). In this view, Jesus is describing the spread of the good news among the Gentiles (see Matthew 21:33–46; 22:1–14; Deuteronomy 30:1–10; Isaiah 27:13; Zechariah 2:6–13).
