The Lord needs it and will return it shortly: Earlier in Mark’s Gospel, the title Lord is used for Jesus (1:3; 2:28; 5:19; see also 12:36–37; 13:35). Because of this, Mark's audience would understand the statement as referring to the Lord Jesus Christ, who needed the colt (see also Romans 10:9; Philippians 2:11).
