Study note

1 Corinthians 1:10

  • brothers: This term traditionally addresses family members, both male and female.

  • I appeal to you: Paul encourages them through the authority of our Lord Jesus Christ, not his own.

  • in the name: In Jewish culture, a person's name represented their authority and reputation.

  • that there may be no divisions: He wanted them to avoid conflict and be united in thought and purpose, filled with the Spirit of Christ (see Philippians 2:2).
