glorious beings: This likely refers to evil angels. In the Old Testament and Judaism, angels played an important role in judgment. The false teachers might have been minimizing the reality of a future judgment (see 1:18; 2 Peter 3:3–4) or denying the glorious origin of these angels who rebelled against God (compare 2 Peter 2:10).
