As children, both Samuel and Jesus had extraordinary qualities (1 Samuel 2:21; see also Luke 2:40, 52). Samuel was one of Jesus' forerunners (someone who came before and prepared the way). Samuel showed what would happen to Jesus through his words, actions, and sometimes through events in his own life that were similar to what would happen in Jesus' life.
