brought … to Jerusalem: David brought these valuable items to Jerusalem and dedicated them to God. He did this in keeping with God’s instructions for a faithful king, which warned against storing up wealth for personal glory (Deuteronomy 17:17). Instead of keeping the gold for himself, David set it apart for God’s use (see 2 Samuel 8:11).
