The king of Egypt stayed in his country because Nebuchadnezzar was too powerful. Judah's hope for help from Egypt was useless (see Jeremiah 2:36; 46:2–12; Ezekiel 29:6, 16).
The Brook of Egypt is thought to be either the Wadi el-Arish near the Nile delta or Nahal Besor, south of Gaza.
