Study note

Genesis 3:23

Therefore the LORD God banished him from the Garden of Eden: Before humans disobeyed God, the garden was a sanctuary where humans could be in God's holy presence. Now their sin meant God had to expel them from that place. This same idea also influenced Israel's laws. The laws limited the access Israelites had to God in the tabernacle or temple (for example, Leviticus 16:1–2; Numbers 5:3).
