Notes
Saul died together with his three sons and all his house: The Chronicler does not mention Saul’s armor bearer or the rest of his troops (see 1 Samuel 31:6). This emphasizes God's role in removing Saul and replacing him with David (1 Chronicles 10:14).
The story of Israel as a kingdom starts with Saul's death. Saul did not achieve God's plans for him as king or for Israel as a nation. His death made way for David, whom the Chronicler saw as Israel's first true king.
