1 Chronicles 18

David’s Triumphs

1Some time later, David defeated the Philistines, subdued them, and took Gath and its villages from the hand of the Philistines.

1And it came to pass after this that David struck the Philistines and subdued them, and he took Gath and its daughters from the hand of the Philistines.

2David also defeated the Moabites, and they became subject to David and brought him tribute.

2And he defeated Moab, and the Moabites became servants of David, bringing tribute.

3As far as Hamath, David also defeated King Hadadezer of Zobah, who had marched out to establish his dominion along the Euphrates River.

3And David defeated Hadadezer king of Zobah as far as Hamath in his going to establish his hand by the river Euphrates.

4David captured from him a thousand chariots, seven thousand charioteers, and twenty thousand foot soldiers, and he hamstrung all the horses except a hundred he kept for the chariots.

4And David took from him a thousand chariots, and seven thousand horsemen, and twenty thousand soldiers on foot, and David hamstrung all the chariots and left of them a hundred chariots.

5When the Arameans of Damascus came to help King Hadadezer of Zobah, David struck down twenty-two thousand of their men.

5And the Aramaeans of Damascus came to help Hadadezer king of Zobah, and David struck down twenty-two thousand men of Aram.

6Then he placed garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and the Arameans became subject to David and brought him tribute. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.

6And David placed garrisons in Aram of Damascus, and Aram became servants of David, bearing tribute, and YHWH preserved David in all to which he went.

7And David took the gold shields that belonged to the officers of Hadadezer and brought them to Jerusalem.

7And David took the shields of gold that were on the servants of Hadadezer, and he brought them to Jerusalem.

8And from Tibhath and Cun, cities of Hadadezer, David took a large amount of bronze, with which Solomon made the bronze Sea, the pillars, and various bronze articles.

8And from Tibhath and from Chun, cities of Hadadezer, David brought a large amount of bronze with which Solomon made the bronze Sea, and the pillars, and the articles of bronze.

9When King Tou of Hamath heard that David had defeated the entire army of Hadadezer king of Zobah,

9And Tou king of Hamath heard that David had defeated all the army of Hadadezer king of Zobah,

10he sent his son Hadoram to greet King David and bless him for fighting and defeating Hadadezer, who had been at war with Tou. Hadoram brought all kinds of articles of gold and silver and bronze,

10and he sent Hadoram his son to King David to ask of him peace and to bless him, upon that he had fought against Hadadezer and struck him. For Hadadezer had been a man at war with Tou, and he had all kinds of articles of gold and silver and bronze.

11and King David dedicated these to the LORD, along with the silver and gold he had carried off from all these nations—from Edom and Moab, and from the Ammonites, Philistines, and Amalekites.

11These also King David dedicated to YHWH, along with the silver and the gold that he had brought from all the nations—from Edom, and from Moab, and from the sons of Ammon, and from the Philistines, and from Amalek.

12Moreover, Abishai son of Zeruiah struck down eighteen thousand Edomites in the Valley of Salt.

12And Abishai son of Zeruiah struck Edom in the Valley of Salt—eighteen thousand.

13He placed garrisons in Edom, and all the Edomites were subject to David. So the LORD made David victorious wherever he went.

13And He put in Edom garrisons, and all Edom became servants of David. And YHWH saved David in all to which he went.
