Twenty-Four Divisions of Musicians

1Additionally, David and the commanders of the army set apart some of the sons of Asaph, Heman, and Jeduthun to prophesy with the accompaniment of lyres, harps, and cymbals. The following is the list of the men who performed this service:

1And David and the heads of the host separated for service some of the sons of Asaph, and of Heman, and of Jeduthun, to prophesy with harps, stringed instruments, and cymbals; and the number of the men of work was according to their service:

2From the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, Joseph, Nethaniah, and Asarelah. These sons of Asaph were under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied under the direction of the king.

2Of the sons of Asaph: Zaccur, and Joseph, and Nethaniah, and Asharelah, the sons of Asaph under the direction of Asaph, who prophesied according to the order of the king.

3From the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, Zeri, Jeshaiah , Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah—six in all—under the direction of their father Jeduthun, who prophesied with the harp, giving thanks and praise to the LORD.

3Of Jeduthun, the sons of Jeduthun: Gedaliah, and Zeri, and Jeshaiah, Shimei, Hashabiah, and Mattithiah—six—under the hand of their father Jeduthun, prophesying with a harp for giving of thanks and praise to YHWH.

4From the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, and Mahazioth.

4Of Heman, the sons of Heman: Bukkiah, Mattaniah, Uzziel, Shebuel, and Jerimoth, Hananiah, Hanani, Eliathah, Giddalti, and Romamti-ezer, Joshbekashah, Mallothi, Hothir, Mahazioth.

5All these sons of Heman the king’s seer were given him through the promises of God to exalt him, for God had given Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

5All these were the sons of Heman, seer of the king in the words of God, to lift up a horn. And God gave to Heman fourteen sons and three daughters.

6All these were under the direction of their fathers for the music of the house of the LORD with cymbals, harps, and lyres, for the service of the house of God.

Asaph, Jeduthun, and Heman were under the direction of the king.

6All these were under the hand of their father in the song of the house of YHWH, with cymbals, harps, and lyres, for the service of the house of God. Under the hand of the king were Asaph, and Jeduthun, and Heman.

7Together with their relatives, who were all trained and skillful in the songs of the LORD, they numbered 288.

7And the number of them with their brothers, who were instructed in the songs of YHWH, all who were skillful, was two hundred eighty-eight.

8They cast lots for their duties, young and old alike, teacher as well as pupil.

8And they cast lots for their duty unto the small as well as the great, the teacher with the pupil.

9The first lot, which was for Asaph, fell to Joseph, his sons, and his brothers—12 in all;

the second to Gedaliah, his sons, and his brothers—12 in all;

9And the first lot came out for Asaph to Joseph, his sons, and his brothers—twelve; the second to Gedaliah—him and his brothers and his sons—twelve;

10the third to Zaccur, his sons, and his brothers—12 in all;

11the fourth to Izri, his sons, and his brothers—12 in all;

12the fifth to Nethaniah, his sons, and his brothers—12 in all;

13the sixth to Bukkiah, his sons, and his brothers—12 in all;

14the seventh to Jesarelah, his sons, and his brothers—12 in all;

15the eighth to Jeshaiah, his sons, and his brothers—12 in all;

16the ninth to Mattaniah, his sons, and his brothers—12 in all;

27the twentieth to Eliathah, his sons, and his brothers—12 in all;

29the twenty-second to Giddalti, his sons, and his brothers—12 in all;

29the two and twentieth to Giddalti, his sons, and his brothers—twelve;

30the twenty-third to Mahazioth, his sons, and his brothers—12 in all;

30the three and twentieth to Mahazioth, his sons, and his brothers—twelve;

31and the twenty-fourth to Romamti-ezer, his sons, and his brothers—12 in all.
