When you leave me today, you will find two men at Rachel’s tomb in Zelzah on the border of Benjamin. They will say to you, ‘The donkeys you seek have been found, and now your father has stopped worrying about the donkeys and started worrying about you, asking, “What should I do about my son?”’
Traditional
When thou art departed from me to day, then thou shalt find two men by Rachel’s sepulchre in the border of Benjamin at Zelzah; and they will say unto thee, The asses which thou wentest to seek are found: and, lo, thy father hath left the care of the asses, and sorroweth for you, saying, What shall I do for my son?
Literal
When you have departed today from me, you will find two men by the tomb of Rachel in the territory of Benjamin in Zelzah. And they will say to you, ‘The donkeys have been found that you went to look for. And behold, your father has ceased the matter of the donkeys, and is worrying about you, saying, “What shall I do about my son?”’

Cum abieris hodie a me, invenies duos viros juxta sepulchrum Rachel in finibus Benjamin, in meridie: dicentque tibi: Inventæ sunt asinæ ad quas ieras perquirendas: et intermissis pater tuus asinis, sollicitus est pro vobis, et dicit: Quid faciam de filio meo?

Notes

Rachel's tomb in Zelzah: See Genesis 35:16–20; the exact location is not known.

These three "signs" were meant to convince a hesitant Saul (1 Samuel 9:21) that he was truly chosen to be king.

Saul became powerful through three main events:

  1. Samuel secretly anointed him (1 Samuel 9:1–10:16).

  2. He was chosen by casting lots (1 Samuel 10:17–27).

  3. He defeated the Ammonites (1 Samuel 11:1–15).
