1 Timothy 2

A Call to Prayer

1First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered for everyone—

1I exhort, therefore, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings to be made for all men,

2for kings and all those in authority—so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity.

2for kings and all those being in authority, so that we may lead a tranquil and quiet life in all godliness and dignity.

3This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior,

3This is good and acceptable before God our Savior,

4who wants everyone to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

4who wants all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.

5For there is one God, and there is one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

5For there is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

6who gave Himself as a ransom for all—the testimony that was given at just the right time.

6the One having given Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony in their own proper times,

7For this reason I was appointed as a preacher, an apostle, and a faithful and true teacher of the Gentiles. I am telling the truth; I am not lying about anything.

7in regard to which I was appointed a preacher and an apostle—I speak the truth; I do not lie—a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and truth.

8Therefore I want the men everywhere to pray, lifting up holy hands, without anger or dissension.

8Therefore I want the men in every place to pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and dissension.

Instructions to Women

9Likewise, I want the women to adorn themselves with respectable apparel, with modesty, and with self-control, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes,

9Likewise also women are to adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and sound-mindedness, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing,

10but with good deeds, as is proper for women who profess to worship God.

10but with what is proper to women professing the fear of God through good works.

11A woman must learn in quietness and full submissiveness.

11Let a woman learn in quietness, in all submission.

12I do not permit a woman to teach or to exercise authority over a man; she is to remain quiet.

12But I do not permit a woman to teach, nor to use authority over a man, but to be in quietness.

13For Adam was formed first, and then Eve.

13For Adam was formed first, then Eve.

14And it was not Adam who was deceived, but the woman who was deceived and fell into transgression.

14And Adam was not deceived, but the woman, having been deceived, has come into transgression.

15Women, however, will be saved through childbearing, if they continue in faith, love, and holiness, with self-control.

15But she will be saved through childbearing, if they remain in faith and love and holiness, with sound-mindedness.
