Translations

Modern
Now, therefore, summon to me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests. See that no one is missing, for I have a great sacrifice for Baal. Whoever is missing will not live.” But Jehu was acting deceptively in order to destroy the servants of Baal.
Traditional
Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal.
Literal
And now all the prophets of the Baal, all his servants, and all his priests, call to me. Let not a man be missing, for a great sacrifice I have for the Baal. Anyone who is missing shall not live.” And Jehu acted deceptively, with the intent of destroying the worshipers of Baal.

Notes

Jehu tricked the people by promising to support and increase the worship of Baal.

By killing the priests of Baal, Jehu tried to remove the worship connected with Ahab’s family. He also wanted to end the people’s loyalty and attachment to the former royal family.

The writer highlights two key events during the time Jehu was king:
