Acts 3

A Lame Man Walks

1One afternoon Peter and John were going up to the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth hour.

1Now Peter and John were going up into the temple at the hour of prayer, the ninth.

2And a man who was lame from birth was being carried to the temple gate called Beautiful, where he was put every day to beg from those entering the temple courts.

2And a certain man was being carried, being lame from his mother’s womb, whom they placed every day at the temple gate called Beautiful to ask for alms from those going into the temple,

3When he saw Peter and John about to enter, he asked them for money.

3who, having seen Peter and John being about to enter into the temple, was asking to receive alms.

4Peter looked directly at him, as did John. “Look at us!” said Peter.

4And Peter, having looked intently upon him, with John, said, “Look toward us!”

5So the man gave them his attention, expecting to receive something from them.

5And he began to give heed to them, expecting to receive something from them.

6But Peter said, “Silver or gold I do not have, but what I have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, get up and walk!”

6But Peter said, “Silver and gold, unto me there is none; but what I have, this I give to you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk!”

7Taking him by the right hand, Peter helped him up, and at once the man’s feet and ankles were made strong.

7And having taken him by the right hand, he raised him up, and immediately his feet and ankles were strengthened.

8He sprang to his feet and began to walk. Then he went with them into the temple courts, walking and leaping and praising God.

8And leaping up, he stood and began walking, and he entered into the temple with them, walking and leaping and praising God.

9When all the people saw him walking and praising God,

9And all the people saw him walking and praising God,

10they recognized him as the man who used to sit begging at the Beautiful Gate of the temple, and they were filled with wonder and amazement at what had happened to him.

10and they recognized him, that he was the one sitting for alms at the Beautiful Gate of the temple. And they were filled with wonder and amazement at that having happened to him.

Peter Speaks in Solomon’s Colonnade

11While the man clung to Peter and John, all the people were astonished and ran to them in the walkway called Solomon’s Colonnade.

11Now of him clinging to Peter and John, all the people ran together to them in the colonnade called Solomon’s, greatly amazed.

12And when Peter saw this, he addressed the people: “Men of Israel, why are you surprised by this? Why do you stare at us as if by our own power or godliness we had made this man walk?

12But having seen, Peter answered to the people: “Men, Israelites, why do you wonder at this? Or why do you look intently on us as if by our own power or godliness we have made him to walk?

13The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus. You handed Him over and rejected Him before Pilate, even though he had decided to release Him.

13The God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His servant Jesus, whom indeed you delivered up and denied in the presence of Pilate, that one having adjudged to release Him.

14You rejected the Holy and Righteous One and asked that a murderer be released to you.

14But you denied the Holy and Righteous One and requested a man, a murderer, to be granted to you.

15You killed the Author of life, but God raised Him from the dead, and we are witnesses of this fact.

15And you killed the Author of life, whom God raised out from the dead, of which we are witnesses.

16By faith in the name of Jesus, this man whom you see and know has been made strong. It is Jesus’ name and the faith that comes through Him that has given him this complete healing in your presence.

16And on the faith in His name, this man whom you see and know, His name strengthened; and the faith that is through Him has given to him this complete soundness before all of you.

17And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as did your leaders.

17And now, brothers, I know that you acted in ignorance, as your rulers also.

18But in this way God has fulfilled what He foretold through all the prophets, saying that His Christ would suffer.

18But what God foretold through the mouth of all the prophets, that His Christ should suffer, He thus fulfilled.

19Repent, then, and turn back, so that your sins may be wiped away,

19Repent, therefore, and turn back, for the blotting out of your sins,

20that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send Jesus, the Christ, who has been appointed for you.

20so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that He may send the One having been appointed to you, Christ Jesus,

21Heaven must take Him in until the time comes for the restoration of all things, which God announced long ago through His holy prophets.

21whom indeed it is necessary for heaven to receive until the times of restoration of all things, of which God spoke by the mouth of His holy prophets from the age.

22For Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among your brothers. You must listen to Him in everything He tells you.

22Indeed Moses said, ‘The Lord your God will raise up to you a prophet like me out of your brothers. You will listen to Him in all things, as many as He might say to you.

23Everyone who does not listen to Him will be completely cut off from among his people.’

23And it will come to pass that every soul who might not heed that prophet will be utterly destroyed out of the people.’

24Indeed, all the prophets from Samuel on, as many as have spoken, have proclaimed these days.

24And also all the prophets from Samuel, and those subsequently, as many as have spoken—they also proclaimed these days.

25And you are sons of the prophets and of the covenant God made with your fathers when He said to Abraham, ‘Through your offspring all the families of the earth will be blessed.’

25You are the sons of the prophets and of the covenant that God made with your fathers, saying to Abraham, ‘And in your seed all the families of the earth will be blessed.’

26When God raised up His Servant, He sent Him first to you to bless you by turning each of you from your wicked ways.”

26God, having raised up His servant, sent Him first to you, blessing you in turning away each one from your wickednesses.”
