When the priests enter therein, then shall they not go out of the holy place into the utter court, but there they shall lay their garments wherein they minister; for they are holy; and shall put on other garments, and shall approach to those things which are for the people.

With the entering of the priests, they will not go out the holy area into the outer court, and there they will leave their garments in which they minister—for they are holy—and they will put on other garments, they may come near to that which is for the people.”

Ezekiel 42:13–14

The priests stored and ate the most sacred offerings in these rooms. They also kept their holy clothes there. When not serving in the Lord's presence, the priests changed into other clothes because the holy clothes were special. These rules show more care in separating the holy from the ordinary compared to similar laws in Leviticus (see Leviticus 6).

Ezekiel 40:1–46:24

The prophet’s tour of the new temple began outside the building. He then moved step by step toward its center.

After reaching the inside, he walked outward again. The tour ended at the kitchens located in the corners of the outer courtyard (Ezekiel 46:19–24).
