Hebrews 1

The Supremacy of the Son

1On many past occasions and in many different ways, God spoke to our fathers through the prophets.

1God, having spoken long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways,

2But in these last days He has spoken to us by His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, and through whom He made the universe.

2in these last days spoke to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the ages,

3The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of His nature, upholding all things by His powerful word. After He had provided purification for sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high.

3who, being the radiance of His glory and the exact imprint of His substance and bearing all things by the word of power—through His having made purification of sins—sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

4So He became as far superior to the angels as the name He has inherited is excellent beyond theirs.

4having become so much better than the angels, as much as He has inherited a name more excellent beyond theirs.

5For to which of the angels did God ever say:

“You are My Son;

today I have become Your Father”?

Or again:

“I will be His Father,

and He will be My Son”?

5For to which of the angels did He ever say: “You are My Son; today I have begotten You”? And again: “I will be to Him for a Father, and He will be to Me for a Son”?

6And again, when God brings His firstborn into the world, He says:

“Let all God’s angels worship Him.”

6And again, when He brings the firstborn into the world, He says: “And let all angels of God worship Him.”

7Now about the angels He says:

“He makes His angels winds,

His servants flames of fire.”

7And indeed to the angels He says: “The One making His angels winds, and His ministers a flame of fire.”

8But about the Son He says:

“Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever,

and justice is the scepter of Your kingdom.

8But to the Son: “Your throne, O God, is to the age of the age, and the scepter of uprightness is the scepter of Your kingdom.

9You have loved righteousness

and hated wickedness;

therefore God, Your God, has anointed You

above Your companions with the oil of joy.”

9You loved righteousness and hated lawlessness; because of this, God, Your God, anointed You with the oil of exultation beyond Your companions.”

10And:

“In the beginning, O Lord, You laid the foundations of the earth,

and the heavens are the work of Your hands.

10And: “You, in the beginning, Lord, laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are works of Your hands.

11They will perish, but You remain;

they will all wear out like a garment.

11They will perish, but You remain; and all will grow old like a garment;

12You will roll them up like a robe;

like a garment they will be changed;

but You remain the same,

and Your years will never end.”

12and like a robe You will roll them up, and like a garment they will be changed; but You are the same, and Your years will not come to an end.”

13Yet to which of the angels did God ever say:

“Sit at My right hand

until I make Your enemies a footstool for Your feet”?

13Now to which of the angels has He ever said: “Sit at My right hand until I shall place Your enemies as a footstool for Your feet”?

14Are not the angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?

14Are they not all ministering spirits being sent forth for service for the sake of those being about to inherit salvation?
