1Therefore, holy brothers, who share in the heavenly calling, set your focus on Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess.
1Hence, holy brothers, partakers of a heavenly calling, carefully consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession,
2He was faithful to the One who appointed Him, just as Moses was faithful in all God’s house.a
2being faithful to the One having appointed Him, as Moses also in all His house.
3For Jesus has been counted worthy of greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house has greater honor than the house itself.
3For this One has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by as much as the one having built it has more honor than the house itself.
4And every house is built by someone, but God is the builder of everything.
4For every house is built by someone, but the One having built everything is God.
5Now Moses was faithful as a servant in all God’s house,a testifying to what would be spoken later.
5And indeed Moses was faithful as an attendant in all His house, for a testimony of the things going to be spoken,
6But Christ is faithful as the Son over God’s house. And we are His house, if we hold firmlya to our confidence and the hope of which we boast.
6but Christ as the Son over His house, whose house we are, if we should hold our confidence and the boast of our hope.
7Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says:
“Today, if you hear His voice,
7Therefore, just as the Holy Spirit says: “Today, if you should hear His voice,
8do not harden your hearts,
as you did in the rebellion,
in the day of testing in the wilderness,
8do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion, in the day of testing in the wilderness,
9where your fathers tested and tried Me,
and for forty years saw My works.
9where forty years your fathers tested Me by trial and saw My works.
10Therefore I was angry with that generation,
and I said,
‘Their hearts are always going astray,
and they have not known My ways.’
10Therefore I was angry with this generation, and I said, ‘Always they go astray in their heart; and did not know My ways;’
11So I swore on oath in My anger,
‘They shall never enter My rest.’”a
11as I swore in My wrath, ‘They shall not enter into My rest.’”
12See to it, brothers, that none of you has a wicked heart of unbelief that turns away from the living God.
12See to it, brothers, lest ever there will be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in the falling away from the living God.
13But exhort one another daily, as long as it is called today, so that none of you may be hardened by sin’s deceitfulness.
13But encourage one another each day, as long as it is called today, so that not any of you may be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.
14We have come to share in Christ if we hold firmly to the end the assurance we had at first.
14For we have become partakers of Christ, if indeed we should hold firm until the end the assurance from the beginning.
15As it has been said:
do not harden your hearts,
as you did in the rebellion.”a
15As it is said: “Today if you should hear His voice, do not harden your hearts, as in the rebellion.”
16For who were the ones who heard and rebelled? Were they not all those Moses led out of Egypt?
16For who, having heard, rebelled? But was it not all those having come forth out of Egypt through Moses?
17And with whom was God angry for forty years? Was it not with those who sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
17And with whom was He angry forty years, if not with those having sinned, whose bodies fell in the wilderness?
18And to whom did He swear that they would never enter His rest? Was it not to those who disobeyed?
18And to whom did He swear that they will not enter into His rest, if not to those having disobeyed?
19So we see that it was because of their unbelief that they were unable to enter.
19And we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief.
