Isaiah 26

A Song of Salvation

1In that day this song will be sung in the land of Judah:

We have a strong city;

salvation is established as its walls and ramparts.

1In that day, will be sung this song in the land of Judah: We have a strong city; He sets salvation for walls and a rampart.

2Open the gates so a righteous nation may enter—

one that remains faithful.

2Open the gates, that a righteous nation may enter in—one keeping faith.

3You will keep in perfect peace the steadfast of mind,

because he trusts in You.

3You will keep the one steadfast of mind in perfect peace, because he trusts in You.

4Trust in the LORD forever,

because GOD the LORD is the Rock eternal.

4Trust in YHWH even to forever, for in YAH—YHWH—is a Rock of Ages.

5For He has humbled those who dwell on high;

He lays the lofty city low.

He brings it down to the ground;

He casts it into the dust.

5For He has brought down those dwelling in a high place; the city up high He brings low—He brings it down to the ground, He makes it touch even to the dust.

6Feet trample it down—

the feet of the oppressed,

the steps of the poor.

6The foot will trample it—the feet of the poor, the steps of the lowly.

7The path of the righteous is level;

You clear a straight path for the upright.

7The path of a righteous one is uprightness; You make level a straight track for the righteous one.

8Yes, we wait for You, O LORD;

we walk in the path of Your judgments.

Your name and renown

are the desire of our souls.

8Indeed, in the path of Your judgments, O YHWH, we wait for You; for Your name and for the remembrance of You is the desire of the soul.

9My soul longs for You in the night;

indeed, my spirit seeks You at dawn.

For when Your judgments come upon the earth,

the people of the world learn righteousness.

9With my soul I have desired You in the night; yes, with my spirit within me I seek You early; for when Your judgments are on the earth, those dwelling in the world will learn righteousness.

10Though grace is shown to the wicked man,

he does not learn righteousness.

In the land of righteousness he acts unjustly

and fails to see the majesty of the LORD.

10Let the wicked be favored—he will not learn righteousness; in the land of uprightness he acts unjustly, and he cannot see the majesty of YHWH.

11O LORD, Your hand is upraised,

but they do not see it.

They will see Your zeal for Your people

and be put to shame.

The fire set for Your enemies

will consume them!

11O YHWH, Your hand is lifted high; they do not see it. Let them see the zeal for the people and be ashamed; yes, the fire of Your enemies will devour them.

12O LORD, You will establish peace for us.

For all that we have accomplished,

You have done for us.

12O YHWH, You will establish peace for us, even for all our works You have done for us.

13O LORD our God, other lords besides You have ruled over us,

but Your name alone do we confess.

13O YHWH our God, lords besides You have ruled over us; only by You we make mention of Your name.

14The dead will not live;

the departed spirits will not rise.

Therefore You have punished and destroyed them;

You have wiped out all memory of them.

14Those being dead will not live; the Rephaim will not rise; therefore you have attended to and destroyed them, and You have made to perish all memory of them.

15You have enlarged the nation, O LORD;

You have enlarged the nation.

You have gained glory for Yourself;

You have extended all the borders of the land.

15You have added to the nation, O YHWH; You have added to the nation, You are glorified; You have expanded all the borders of the land.

16O LORD, they sought You in their distress;

when You disciplined them, they poured out a quiet prayer.

16O YHWH, in the distress they visited You; they poured out a whispering with Your discipline upon them.

17As a woman with child about to give birth

writhes and cries out in pain,

so were we in Your presence, O LORD.

17Like a pregnant woman drawing near to giving birth writhes and cries out in pain, so have we been before Your face, O YHWH.

18We were with child; we writhed in pain;

but we gave birth to wind.

We have given no salvation to the earth,

nor brought any life into the world.

18We were pregnant; we writhed; we gave birth as if to the wind; we have not accomplished salvation on earth, and those dwelling in the world have not fallen.

19Your dead will live; their bodies will rise.

Awake and sing, you who dwell in the dust!

For your dew is like the dew of the morning,

and the earth will bring forth her dead.

19Your dead will live—my corpse they rise! Awake and sing out, O dwellers of the dust! For a dew of light is your dew, and the earth, she will cast out the Rephaim.

20Go, my people, enter your rooms

and shut your doors behind you.

Hide yourselves a little while

until the wrath has passed.

20Go, my people, come into your chambers, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourself a little while, until His anger has passed by.

21For behold, the LORD is coming out of His dwelling

to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity.

The earth will reveal her bloodshed

and will no longer conceal her slain.

21For behold, YHWH is coming forth from His place to punish the iniquity of those dwelling in the earth! And the earth will uncover her bloodshed and she will not cover anymore over her slain.
