Isaiah 39
Hezekiah Shows His Treasures
1At that time Merodach-baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, for he had heard about Hezekiah’s illness and recovery.
1At that time, Merodach-Baladan son of Baladan king of Babylon sent letters and a gift to Hezekiah, for he had heard that he had been sick and had regained strength.
2And Hezekiah welcomed the envoys gladly and showed them what was in his treasure house—the silver, the gold, the spices, and the precious oil, as well as his entire armory—all that was found in his storehouses. There was nothing in his palace or in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them.
2And Hezekiah was glad over them, and he showed them the house of his treasure, the silver and the gold, and the spices, and the precious oil, and all the house of his armory, and all that was found in his storehouses. There was not a thing in his house or in all his dominion that Hezekiah did not show them.
3Then the prophet Isaiah went to King Hezekiah and asked, “Where did those men come from, and what did they say to you?”
“They came to me from a distant land,” Hezekiah replied, “from Babylon.”
3And Isaiah the prophet came to king Hezekiah and said to him,” “What did these men say, and from where did they come to you? And Hezekiah said, “From a land” far off—they have come to me from Babylon.”
4“What have they seen in your palace?” Isaiah asked.
“They have seen everything in my palace,” answered Hezekiah. “There is nothing among my treasures that I did not show them.”
4And he said “What have they seen in your house?” And Hezekiah said, “All that is in my house they have seen; there is not a thing that I have not shown them among my treasures.”
6The time will surely come when everything in your palace and all that your fathers have stored up until this day will be carried off to Babylon. Nothing will be left, says the LORD.
6Behold, the days are coming when it will be carried off—all that is in your house and that your fathers have stored up until this day—to Babylon; not a thing will be left, says YHWH.
8But Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “The word of the LORD that you have spoken is good.” For he thought, “At least there will be peace and security in my lifetime.”
8And Hezekiah said to Isaiah, “Good is” the word of YHWH that you have spoken. And he said, “For there will be peace and security in my days.”
