Isaiah 60

Future Glory for Zion

1Arise, shine, for your light has come,

and the glory of the LORD rises upon you.

1Arise, shine! For your light has come, and the glory of YHWH has risen upon you.

2For behold, darkness covers the earth,

and thick darkness is over the peoples;

but the LORD will rise upon you,

and His glory will appear over you.

2For, behold, the darkness may cover the earth, and deep darkness the peoples; and over you YHWH will rise, and His glory will be seen over you.

3Nations will come to your light,

and kings to the brightness of your dawn.

3And nations will come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your dawning.

4Lift up your eyes and look around:

They all gather and come to you;

your sons will come from afar,

and your daughters will be carried on the arm.

4Lift up your eyes all around, and see! They all gather; they have come to you! Your sons come from afar, and your daughters are supported on the side.

5Then you will look and be radiant,

and your heart will tremble and swell with joy,

because the riches of the sea will be brought to you,

and the wealth of the nations will come to you.

5Then you will look and be radiant, and your heart will tremble and be enlarged, when the abundance of the sea is turned over to you, the wealth of the nations will come to you.

6Caravans of camels will cover your land,

young camels of Midian and Ephah,

and all from Sheba will come,

bearing gold and frankincense

and proclaiming the praises of the LORD.

6A multitude of camels will cover you, young camels of Midian and Ephah; all those from Sheba will come; they will bring gold and incense, and they will proclaim the praises of YHWH.

7All the flocks of Kedar will be gathered to you;

the rams of Nebaioth will serve you

and go up on My altar with acceptance;

I will adorn My glorious house.

7All the flock of Kedar will be gathered to you; the rams of Nebajoth will serve you; they will ascend with acceptance on My altar, and I will glorify the house of My beauty.

8Who are these who fly like clouds,

like doves to their shelters?

8Who are these flying like the cloud, and like the doves to their windows?

9Surely the islands will wait for Me,

with the ships of Tarshish in the lead,

to bring your children from afar,

with their silver and gold,

to the honor of the LORD your God,

the Holy One of Israel,

for He has glorified you.

9Surely for Me the islands are waiting, and with the ships of Tarshish first in line, to bring your sons from afar, with them their silver and their gold for the name of YHWH your God, and for the Holy One of Israel, because He has glorified you.

10Foreigners will rebuild your walls,

and their kings will serve you.

Although I struck you in anger,

yet in favor I will show you mercy.

10And the sons of foreigners will rebuild your walls, and their kings will serve you; for in My wrath I struck you, and in My favor I have compassion on you.

11Your gates will always stand open;

they will never be shut, day or night,

so that the wealth of the nations may be brought into you,

with their kings being led in procession.

11And your gates will be open continually—day and night they will not be shut—for bringing the wealth of the nations to you, and their kings being led in procession.

12For the nation or kingdom that will not serve you will perish;

it will be utterly destroyed.

12For the nation and the kingdom that will not serve you will perish, and the nations will be utterly destroyed.

13The glory of Lebanon will come to you—

its cypress, elm, and boxwood together—

to adorn the place of My sanctuary,

and I will glorify the place of My feet.

13The glory of Lebanon will come to you—the cypress, elm, and boxwood together—to beautify the place of My sanctuary, and I will glorify the place of My feet.

14The sons of your oppressors

will come and bow down to you;

all who reviled you

will fall facedown at your feet

and call you the City of the LORD,

Zion of the Holy One of Israel.

14They will come to you, bowing down—the sons of those who afflicted you, and they will bow low at the soles of your feet—all those who despised you; and they will call you the City of YHWH—Zion, of the Holy One of Israel.

15Whereas you have been forsaken and despised,

with no one passing through,

I will make you an everlasting pride,

a joy from age to age.

15Instead of your being forsaken and hated, with no one passing through, then I will make you a pride forever, a joy to generation and generation.

16You will drink the milk of nations

and nurse at the breasts of royalty;

you will know that I, the LORD, am your Savior

and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

16And you will suck the milk of nations, and you will suck the breast of kings; and you will know that I am YHWH your Savior and your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob.

17Instead of bronze I will bring you gold;

I will bring silver in place of iron,

bronze instead of wood,

and iron instead of stones.

I will appoint peace as your governor

and righteousness as your ruler.

17In place of bronze I will bring gold, and in place of iron I will bring silver, and in place of the wood bronze, and in place of stones iron; I will appoint peace as your governor, and righteousness as your rulers.

18No longer will violence be heard in your land,

nor ruin or destruction within your borders.

But you will name your walls Salvation

and your gates Praise.

18Violence will not be heard any longer in your land—devastation or destruction within your borders; and you will call your walls Salvation, and your gates Praise.

19No longer will the sun be your light by day,

nor the brightness of the moon shine on your night;

for the LORD will be your everlasting light,

and your God will be your splendor.

19No longer will the sun be for you as light by day, and for brightness the moon will not shine on your night, and YHWH will be for you as a light forever, and your God as your glory.

20Your sun will no longer set,

and your moon will not wane;

for the LORD will be your everlasting light,

and the days of your sorrow will cease.

20Your sun will not any longer go down, and your moon will not be gathered; for YHWH will be for you as a light forever, and the days of your mourning will be ended.

21Then all your people will be righteous;

they will possess the land forever;

they are the branch of My planting,

the work of My hands,

so that I may be glorified.

21And your people, all of them, will be righteous; they will inherit the land forever, the branch of My planting, the work of My hands, to My being glorified.

22The least of you will become a thousand,

and the smallest a mighty nation.

I am the LORD;

in its time I will accomplish it quickly.

22The little one will become as a thousand, and the smallest as a mighty nation; I am YHWH, and in its time I will hasten it!
