Jeremiah 45

Jeremiah’s Message to Baruch

1This is the word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch son of Neriah when he wrote these words on a scroll at the dictation of Jeremiah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah:

1The word that Jeremiah the prophet spoke to Baruch son of Neriah, in his writing these words upon a scroll from the mouth of Jeremiah in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah, saying:

2“This is what the LORD, the God of Israel, says to you, Baruch:

2“Thus says YHWH, the God of Israel, to you, O Baruch:

3You have said, ‘Woe is me because the LORD has added sorrow to my pain! I am worn out with groaning and have found no rest.’”

3You have said, ‘Woe now to me! For YHWH has added sorrow to my pain! I grow weary in my sighing, I do not find rest.’”

4Thus Jeremiah was to say to Baruch: “This is what the LORD says: Throughout the land I will demolish what I have built and uproot what I have planted.

4Thus you will say to him, “Thus says YHWH: Behold, what I have built I am breaking down, and what I have planted I am plucking up—even all the land itself.

5But as for you, do you seek great things for yourself? Stop seeking! For I will bring disaster on every living creature, declares the LORD, but wherever you go, I will grant your life as a spoil of war.”

5And do you seek for yourself great things? Do not seek them. For behold, I am going to bring disaster upon all flesh, a declaration of YHWH, and I will give to you your soul as a prize, in all the places to which you go there.”
