Luke 17

Temptations and Trespasses

1Jesus said to His disciples, “It is inevitable that stumbling blocks will come, but woe to the one through whom they come!

1And He said to His disciples, “It is impossible for the stumbling blocks not to come, but woe to him through whom they come!

2It would be better for him to have a millstone hung around his neck and to be thrown into the sea than to cause one of these little ones to stumble.

2It is better for him if a millstone is put around his neck and he is thrown into the sea than that he might cause to stumble one of these little ones.

3Watch yourselves. If your brother sins, rebuke him; and if he repents, forgive him.

3Take heed to yourselves: If your brother should sin, rebuke him; and if he should repent, forgive him.

4Even if he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times returns to say, ‘I repent,’ you must forgive him.”

4And if he should sin against you seven times in the day, and seven times he should return to you, saying, ‘I repent,’ you will forgive him.”

The Power of Faith

5The apostles said to the Lord, “Increase our faith!”

5And the apostles said to the Lord, “Add to our faith!”

6And the Lord answered, “If you have faith the size of a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.

6And the Lord said, “If you have faith as a grain of mustard, you would have said to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and be planted in the sea,’ and it would have obeyed you.

7Which of you whose servant comes in from plowing or shepherding in the field will say to him, ‘Come at once and sit down to eat’?

7And which of you having a servant plowing or shepherding, the one having come in out of the field, will say to him, ‘Having come, immediately recline’?

8Instead, won’t he tell him, ‘Prepare my meal and dress yourself to serve me while I eat and drink, and afterward you may eat and drink’?

8But will he not say to him, ‘Prepare what I may eat, and having girded yourself about, serve me while I eat and drink; and after these things you will eat and drink’?

9Does he thank the servant because he did what he was told?

9Does he have favor to the servant because he did the things having been directed?

10So you also, when you have done everything commanded of you, should say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have only done our duty.’”

10Thus also you, when you may have done all the things having been directed you, say, ‘We are unworthy servants; we have done that which we were obligated to do.’”

The Ten Lepers

11While Jesus was on His way to Jerusalem, He was passing between Samaria and Galilee.

11And it came to pass, in His going to Jerusalem, that He was passing through the midst of Samaria and Galilee.

12As He entered one of the villages, He was met by ten lepers. They stood at a distance

12And on His entering into a certain village, ten leprous men met Him, who stood afar off.

13and raised their voices, shouting, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”

13And they lifted up their voice, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!”

14When Jesus saw them, He said, “Go, show yourselves to the priests.” And as they were on their way, they were cleansed.

14And having seen, He said to them, “Having gone, show yourselves to the priests.” And it came to pass, in their going, that they were cleansed.

15When one of them saw that he was healed, he came back, praising God in a loud voice.

15And one of them, having seen that he was healed, turned back, glorifying God with a loud voice,

16He fell facedown at Jesus’ feet in thanksgiving to Him—and he was a Samaritan.

16and he fell on his face at His feet, giving thanks to Him. And he was a Samaritan.

17“Were not all ten cleansed?” Jesus asked. “Where then are the other nine?

17And having answered, Jesus said, “Were not the ten cleansed? But where are the nine?

18Was no one found except this foreigner to return and give glory to God?”

18Was there found none having returned to give glory to God except this foreigner?”

19Then Jesus said to him, “Rise and go; your faith has made you well!”

19And He said to him, “Having risen up, go; your faith has saved you!”

The Coming of the Kingdom

20When asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God will not come with observable signs.

20And having been questioned by the Pharisees as to when the kingdom of God is coming, He answered them and said, “The kingdom of God does not come with observation,

21Nor will people say, ‘Look, here it is,’ or ‘There it is.’ For you see, the kingdom of God is in your midst.”

21nor will they say, ‘Behold, here,’ or, ‘There.’ For behold, the kingdom of God is in your midst.”

22Then He said to the disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it.

22And He said to the disciples, “The days will come when you will desire to see one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it.

23People will tell you, ‘Look, there He is!’ or ‘Look, here He is!’ Do not go out or chase after them.

23And they will say to you, ‘Behold, there,’ or, ‘Behold, here.’ you should not go away, nor should you pursue.

24For just as the lightning flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other, so will be the Son of Man in His day.

24For just as the lightning shines, flashing from the one end of the sky to the other end of the sky, so will be the Son of Man in His day.

25But first He must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation.

25But first it is necessary for Him to suffer many things and to be rejected by this generation.

26Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man:

26And just as it came to pass in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man:

27People were eating and drinking, marrying and being given in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all.

27They were eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, until that day Noah entered into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.

28It was the same in the days of Lot: People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building.

28Likewise, just as it came to pass in the days of Lot: They were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building,

29But on the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all.

29and in that day Lot went out from Sodom, it rained fire and sulfur from heaven and destroyed all.

30It will be just like that on the day the Son of Man is revealed.

30According to the same things it will be in that day the Son of Man is revealed.

31On that day, let no one on the housetop come down to retrieve his possessions. Likewise, let no one in the field return for anything he has left behind.

31In that day, the one who will be on the housetop, and his goods in the house, let him not come down to take them away; and likewise the one in the field, let him not return to the things behind.

32Remember Lot’s wife!

32Remember the wife of Lot!

33Whoever tries to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life will preserve it.

33Whoever may seek to keep his life will lose it; but whoever may lose it will preserve it.

34I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed: one will be taken and the other left.

34I say to you, in that night there will be two upon one bed: The one will be taken, and the other will be left.

35Two women will be grinding grain together: one will be taken and the other left.”

35There will be two women grinding at the same place: The one will be taken, and the other will be left.”

36—

36—

37“Where, Lord?” they asked.

Jesus answered, “Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.”

37And answering, they say to Him, “Where, Lord?” And He said to them, “Where the body is, there also the vultures will be gathered together.”
