Mark 16

The Resurrection

1When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so they could go and anoint the body of Jesus.

1And on the Sabbath having passed, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Salome bought spices so that, having come, they might anoint Him.

2Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they went to the tomb.

2And very early on the first of the Sabbaths, they come to the tomb at the sun having arisen.

3They were asking one another, “Who will roll away the stone from the entrance of the tomb?”

3And they were saying among themselves, “Who will roll away the stone for us out from the door of the tomb?”

4But when they looked up, they saw that the stone had been rolled away, even though it was extremely large.

4And having looked up, they see that the stone has been rolled away—for it was exceedingly large.

5When they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.

5And having entered into the tomb, they saw a young man clothed in a white robe sitting on the right, and they were greatly amazed.

6But he said to them, “Do not be alarmed. You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here! See the place where they put Him.

6Now he says to them, “Do not be amazed. You seek Jesus the Nazarene, the One having been crucified. He is risen! He is not here! Behold the place where they laid Him.

7But go, tell His disciples and Peter, ‘He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see Him, just as He told you.’”

7But go, say to His disciples and to Peter, ‘He goes before you into Galilee. There you will see Him, as He said to you.’”

8So the women left the tomb and ran away, trembling and bewildered. And in their fear they did not say a word to anyone.

8And having gone out, they fled from the tomb, for trembling and amazement had seized them. And they spoke nothing to anyone, for they were afraid.

Jesus Appears to Mary Magdalene

9Early on the first day of the week, after Jesus had risen, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had driven out seven demons.

9And having risen early on the first of the week, He appeared first to Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons.

10She went and told those who had been with Him, who were mourning and weeping.

10She, having gone, reported to those having been with Him, mourning and weeping.

11And when they heard that Jesus was alive and she had seen Him, they did not believe it.

11And they, having heard that He is alive and was seen by her, disbelieved.

Jesus Appears to Two Disciples

12After this, Jesus appeared in a different form to two of them as they walked along in the country.

12And after these things, He appeared in another form to two of them as they are walking, going into the country.

13And they went back and reported it to the rest, but they did not believe them either.

13And they, having gone, reported to the rest; neither did they believe them.

The Great Commission

14Later, as they were eating, Jesus appeared to the Eleven and rebuked them for their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those who had seen Him after He had risen.

14And afterward, in their reclining, He appeared to the Eleven and rebuked their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they did not believe those having seen Him arisen.

15And He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to every creature.

15And He said to them, “Having gone into all the world, proclaim the gospel to all the creation.

16Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.

16The one having believed and having been baptized will be saved, but the one having disbelieved will be condemned.

17And these signs will accompany those who believe: In My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;

17And these signs will accompany those having believed: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues;

18they will pick up snakes with their hands, and if they drink any deadly poison, it will not harm them; they will lay their hands on the sick, and they will be made well.”

18and with their hands they will take up serpents; and if they drink anything deadly, it shall never hurt them; they will lay hands upon the sick, and they will be well.”

The Ascension

19After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, He was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God.

19Therefore indeed the Lord Jesus, after speaking to them, was taken up into heaven and sat at the right hand of God.

20And they went out and preached everywhere, and the Lord worked through them, confirming His word by the signs that accompanied it.

20And they, having gone out, preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word by the accompanying signs.
