Notes

Not every wise person lives longer than every evil person. However, obedience and wise living increase the chances of a long, good life (see also Proverbs 5:1–14, 21–23; 23:29–35; compare Ecclesiastes 2:12217).

The father offers his children two choices:

  • Avoid evil to escape its bad effects

  • Choose good for its blessings
