I Lift Up My Eyes to You

¹A song of ascents.

I lift up my eyes to You,

the One enthroned in heaven.

¹A Song of the Ascents. Unto You I lift up my eyes, to the One sitting in the heavens.

²As the eyes of servants

look to the hand of their master,

as the eyes of a maidservant

look to the hand of her mistress,

so our eyes are on the LORD our God

until He shows us mercy.

²Behold, as the eyes of servants are to the hand of their masters, as the eyes of a maidservant are to the hand of her mistress, so are our eyes to YHWH our God, until He shows us mercy.

³Have mercy on us, O LORD, have mercy,

for we have endured much contempt.

³Have mercy on us, O YHWH, Have mercy on us! For we are filled exceedingly with contempt.

⁴We have endured much scorn from the arrogant,

much contempt from the proud.

⁴Exceedingly our soul has been filled with the scorn of those at ease, with the contempt of the prideful ones.
