Psalm 41

Victory over Betrayal

1For the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.

Blessed is the one who cares for the poor;

the LORD will deliver him in the day of trouble.

1For the one directing. A Psalm of David. Blessed is he who acts wisely toward the poor; in a day of evil, YHWH will rescue him.

2The LORD will protect and preserve him;

He will bless him in the land

and refuse to give him over

to the will of his foes.

2YHWH will guard him and keep him alive; he will be blessed in the land, and You will not deliver him to the will of his enemies.

3The LORD will sustain him on his bed of illness

and restore him from his bed of sickness.

3YHWH will support him on his couch of illness; You turn over all his bed in his sickness.

4I said, “O LORD, be gracious to me;

heal me, for I have sinned against You.”

4I said, “O YHWH, be gracious to me; heal my soul, for I have sinned against You.”

5My enemies say with malice:

“When will he die and be forgotten?”

5My enemies speak evil against me: “When will he die and his name perish?”

6My visitor speaks falsehood;

he gathers slander in his heart;

he goes out and spreads it abroad.

6And if one comes to see me, he speaks emptiness; his heart gathers iniquity for himself; he goes out—at the street he speaks.

7All who hate me whisper against me;

they imagine the worst for me:

7All those hating me, they whisper together against me; against me they devise evil to me:

8“A vile disease has been poured into him;

he will never get up from where he lies!”

8“Let a thing of destruction be poured into him, and he who lies down shall not rise up again.”

9Even my close friend whom I trusted,

the one who shared my bread,

has lifted up his heel against me.

9Even a man of my welfare, he in whom I trusted, who ate my bread, has lifted up the heel against me.

10But You, O LORD, be gracious to me and raise me up,

that I may repay them.

10But You, O YHWH, show favor to me and raise me up, that I may repay them!

11By this I know that You delight in me,

for my enemy does not triumph over me.

11By this I know that You have delighted in me: That my enemy will not shout over me.

12In my integrity You uphold me

and set me in Your presence forever.

12And I, in my integrity, may You take hold of me and set me before Your face forever.

13Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel,

from everlasting to everlasting.

Amen and Amen.

13Blessed be YHWH, God of Israel, from forever and even to forever! Amen and Amen.
