Psalm 77

In the Day of Trouble I Sought the Lord

1For the choirmaster. According to Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph.

I cried out to God;

I cried aloud to God to hear me.

1For the one directing. According to Jeduthun. Of Asaph. A Psalm. My voice is to God—indeed I cry out with my voice to God—and He has given ear to me.

2In the day of trouble I sought the Lord;

through the night my outstretched hands did not grow weary;

my soul refused to be comforted.

2In the day of my distress I sought the Lord; my hand in the night has been stretched out, and it does not slacken; my soul refuses to be comforted.

3I remembered You, O God, and I groaned;

I mused and my spirit grew faint.

Selah

3I remember God, and I groan; I meditate, and my spirit becomes faint. Selah

4You have kept my eyes from closing;

I am too troubled to speak.

4You hold the lids of my eyes; I am troubled, and I cannot speak.

5I considered the days of old,

the years long in the past.

5I consider the days of old, the years of ages past.

6At night I remembered my song;

in my heart I mused, and my spirit pondered:

6I remember, my song in the night; with my heart I converse, and my spirit searches.

7“Will the Lord spurn us forever

and never show His favor again?

7“Will the Lord forever reject us, and not anymore will He add to show favor?

8Is His loving devotion gone forever?

Has His promise failed for all time?

8Has His loving devotion ceased forever? Has His speech come to an end to generation and generation?

9Has God forgotten to be gracious?

Has His anger shut off His compassion?”

Selah

9Or has God forgotten to show favor? Has He shut up in anger His compassion?” Selah

10So I said, “I am grieved

that the right hand of the Most High has changed.”

10and I said, “I am grieved. Has it changed—the right hand of the Most High?”

11I will remember the works of the LORD;

yes, I will remember Your wonders of old.

11I will remember the deeds of YAH; indeed, I will remember Your wonder of old.

12I will reflect on all You have done

and ponder Your mighty deeds.

12And I have meditated on all Your work, and I put forth Your deeds.

13Your way, O God, is holy.

What god is so great as our God?

13O God, in holiness is Your way; what god is great like God?

14You are the God who works wonders;

You display Your strength among the peoples.

14You are the God doing wonders; You have made known among the peoples Your strength.

15With power You redeemed Your people,

the sons of Jacob and Joseph.

Selah

15You have redeemed with Your arm a people, the sons of Jacob and Joseph. Selah

16The waters saw You, O God;

the waters saw You and swirled;

even the depths were shaken.

16the waters saw You, O God, the waters saw You and swirled; even the depths trembled.

17The clouds poured down water;

the skies resounded with thunder;

Your arrows flashed back and forth.

17The clouds poured forth waters, the skies gave forth a voice, and Your arrows flashed back and forth.

18Your thunder resounded in the whirlwind;

the lightning lit up the world;

the earth trembled and quaked.

18The voice of Your thunder was in the whirlwind; the lightnings lit up the world; the earth trembled and shook.

19Your path led through the sea,

Your way through the mighty waters,

but Your footprints were not to be found.

19Your way was in the sea, and Your paths in the great waters, and Your footprints were not known.

20You led Your people like a flock

by the hand of Moses and Aaron.

20You led Your people like a flock, by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
