¹⁰Johanan was the father of Azariah, who served as priest in the temple that Solomon built in Jerusalem,

¹⁰and Johanan begat Azariah, he who ministered as priest in the temple that Solomon built in Jerusalem.

¹¹Azariah was the father of Amariah, Amariah was the father of Ahitub,

¹¹And Azariah begat Amariah, and Amariah begat Ahitub,

¹²Ahitub was the father of Zadok, Zadok was the father of Shallum,

¹²and Ahitub begat Zadok, and Zadok begat Shallum,

¹³Shallum was the father of Hilkiah, Hilkiah was the father of Azariah,

¹³and Shallum begat Hilkiah, and Hilkiah begat Azariah,

¹⁴Azariah was the father of Seraiah, and Seraiah was the father of Jehozadak.^a

¹⁴and Azariah begat Seraiah, and Seraiah begat Jehozadak.

¹⁵Jehozadak went into captivity when the LORD sent Judah and Jerusalem into exile by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar.

¹⁵And Jehozadak went in the removing by YHWH of Judah and Jerusalem by the hand of Nebuchadnezzar.

¹⁶The sons of Levi:

Gershom,^a Kohath, and Merari.

The Temple Musicians

³¹These are the men David put in charge of the music in the house of the LORD after the ark rested there.

³¹And these are they whom David stationed over the service of song in the house of YHWH, from the resting of the ark.

³²They ministered with song before the tabernacle, the Tent of Meeting, until Solomon built the house of the LORD in Jerusalem. And they performed their duties according to the regulations given them.

³²And they were ministering before the face of the dwelling place of the Tent of Meeting with song, until Solomon had built the house of YHWH in Jerusalem. And they stood according to their judgments over their service.

³³These are the men who served, together with their sons.

The Descendants of Aaron

⁴⁸Their fellow Levites were assigned to every kind of service of the tabernacle, the house of God.

⁴⁸And their brothers the Levites were appointed to all the service of the tabernacle of the house of God.

⁴⁹But Aaron and his sons did all the work of the Most Holy Place.^a They presented the offerings on the altar of burnt offering and on the altar of incense to make atonement for Israel, according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.

⁴⁹And Aaron and his sons offered sacrifices on the altar of the burnt offering and on the altar of incense for all the work of the holy of Holies, and to make atonement upon Israel according to all that Moses the servant of God had commanded.

⁵⁰These were the descendants of Aaron: Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son,

⁵⁰And these are the sons of Aaron: Eleazar his son, Phinehas his son, Abishua his son,

⁵¹Bukki his son, Uzzi his son, Zerahiah his son,

⁵²Meraioth his son, Amariah his son, Ahitub his son,

Territories for the Levites

⁵⁴Now these were the territories assigned to the descendants of Aaron from the Kohathite clan for their settlements, because the first lot fell to them:

⁵⁴And these were their dwelling places throughout their settlements in their territory to the sons of Aaron of the family of the Kohathites, for they were by the lot:

⁵⁵They were given Hebron in the land of Judah and its surrounding pasturelands.

⁵⁵And they gave to them Hebron in the land of Judah, and its surrounding pasturelands.

⁵⁶But the fields and villages around the city were given to Caleb son of Jephunneh.

⁵⁶And the fields of the city and its villages they gave to Caleb son of Jephunneh.

⁵⁷So the descendants of Aaron were given Hebron (a city of refuge), Libnah,^a Jattir, Eshtemoa,

⁵⁷And to the sons of Aaron they gave the cities of refuge, Hebron, and also Libnah and its pasturelands, and Jattir, and Eshtemoa and its pasturelands,

⁵⁸Hilen,^a Debir,

⁵⁸and Hilen and its pasturelands, Debir and its pasturelands,

⁵⁹Ashan,^a Juttah,^b and Beth-shemesh, together with their pasturelands.

⁵⁹and Ashan, and Juttah, and Beth-shemesh and its pasturelands.

⁶⁰And from the tribe of Benjamin they were given Gibeon,^a Geba, Alemeth, and Anathoth, together with their pasturelands. So they had thirteen cities in all among their families.

⁶⁰And from the tribe of Benjamin: Gibeon, Geba and its pasturelands, and Alemeth and its pasturelands, and Anathoth and its pasturelands—all their cities were thirteen cities among their families.

⁶¹To the rest of the Kohathites, ten cities were allotted from the half-tribe of Manasseh.

⁶¹And to the Kohathite, the rest of the family of the tribe, from the half-tribe, the half of Manasseh, they gave by lot ten cities.

⁶²The Gershomites,^a according to their clans, were allotted thirteen cities from the tribes of Issachar, Asher, Naphtali, and Manasseh in Bashan.

⁶²And to the sons of Gershom according to their clans, from the tribe of Issachar, and from the tribe of Asher, and from the tribe of Naphtali, and from the tribe of Manasseh in Bashan, they gave thirteen cities.

⁶³The Merarites, according to their clans, were allotted twelve cities from the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and Zebulun.

⁶³To the sons of Merari throughout their clans, from the tribe of Reuben, from the tribe of Gad, and from the tribe of Zebulun, there were allotted twelve cities.

⁶⁴So the Israelites gave to the Levites these cities and their pasturelands.

⁶⁴And the sons of Israel gave to the Levites the cities and their pasturelands.

⁶⁵They assigned by lot the cities named above from the tribes of Judah, Simeon, and Benjamin.

⁶⁵And they gave by lot from the tribe of the sons of Judah, and from the tribe of the sons of Simeon, and from the tribe of the sons of Benjamin, these cities that are called by the names.

⁶⁶And some of the clans of the Kohathites were given cities from the tribe of Ephraim for their territory:

⁶⁶And some of the clans of the sons of Kohath were cities as their territory from the tribe of Ephraim.

⁶⁷They were given Shechem (a city of refuge)^a with its pasturelands in the hill country of Ephraim, and Gezer,

⁶⁷And they gave to them the cities of refuge, Shechem, and its pasturelands, in the hill country of Ephraim, and also Gezer and its pasturelands,

⁶⁸Jokmeam, Beth-horon,

⁶⁸and Jokmeam and its pasturelands, and Beth-horon and its pasturelands,

⁶⁹Aijalon, and Gath-rimmon, together with their pasturelands.

⁶⁹and Aijalon and its pasturelands, and Gath-rimmon and its pasturelands.

⁷⁰And from the half-tribe of Manasseh the rest of the clans of the Kohathites were given Aner and Bileam, together with their pasturelands.

⁷⁰And from the half-tribe of Manasseh, Aner and its pasturelands, and Bileam and its pasturelands, for the clan of the sons of Kohath remaining.

⁷¹The Gershomites received the following:

From the clan of the half-tribe of Manasseh they were given Golan in Bashan and also Ashtaroth, together with their pasturelands.

⁷¹The sons of Gershom: From the clan of the half-tribe of Manasseh, Golan in Bashan and its pasturelands, and Ashtaroth and its pasturelands.

⁷²From the tribe of Issachar they were given Kedesh, Daberath,

⁷²And from the tribe of Issachar, Kedesh and its pasturelands, Daberath and its pasturelands,

⁷³Ramoth, and Anem, together with their pasturelands.

⁷³and Ramoth and its pasturelands, and Anem and its pasturelands.

⁷⁴From the tribe of Asher they were given Mashal, Abdon,

⁷⁴And from the tribe of Asher, Mashal and its pasturelands, and Abdon and its pasturelands,

⁷⁵Hukok, and Rehob, together with their pasturelands.

⁷⁵and Hukok and its pasturelands, and Rehob and its pasturelands.

⁷⁶And from the tribe of Naphtali they were given Kedesh in Galilee, Hammon, and Kiriathaim, together with their pasturelands.

⁷⁶And from the tribe of Naphtali, Kedesh in Galilee and its pasturelands, and Hammon and its pasturelands, and Kiriathaim and its pasturelands.

⁷⁷The Merarites (the rest of the Levites) received the following:

From the tribe of Zebulun they were given Rimmono and Tabor,^a together with their pasturelands.

⁷⁷The sons of Merari (the remaining): From the tribe of Zebulun, Rimmono and its pasturelands, and Tabor and its pasturelands.

⁷⁸From the tribe of Reuben east of the Jordan opposite Jericho they were given Bezer in the wilderness, Jahzah,^a

⁷⁸And from beyond the Jordan by Jericho, at the east of the Jordan, from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer in the wilderness and its pasturelands, and Jahzah and its pasturelands,

⁷⁹Kedemoth, and Mephaath, together with their pasturelands.

⁷⁹and Kedemoth and its pasturelands, and Mephaath and its pasturelands.

⁸⁰And from the tribe of Gad they were given Ramoth in Gilead, Mahanaim,

⁸⁰And from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead and its pasturelands, and Mahanaim and its pasturelands,

⁸¹Heshbon, and Jazer, together with their pasturelands.
