I have carried out the LORD’s instructions: Compare with 1 Samuel 15:3. Saul believed his actions were justified (1 Samuel 15:15; compare with Leviticus 22:19). However, Samuel exposed Saul’s false excuse (1 Samuel 15:17–19). Samuel then carried out God’s command himself (1 Samuel 15:32–33).
After Saul disobeyed God by not completely destroying the Amalekites, God rejected him more strongly than before (see 1 Samuel 13:8–14).
