Ezekiel 7

The Hour of Doom

1And the word of the LORD came to me, saying,

1And came to be the word of YHWH to me, saying:

2“O son of man, this is what the Lord GOD says to the land of Israel:

‘The end! The end has come

upon the four corners of the land.

2“And you, son of man, thus says the Lord YHWH to the land of Israel, ‘An end has come, the end upon the four corners of the land!

3The end is now upon you,

and I will unleash My anger against you.

I will judge you according to your ways

and repay you for all your abominations.

3Now the end is upon you—and I will send My nose against you, and I will judge you according to your ways, and I will recompense upon you all your abominations!

4I will not look on you with pity,

nor will I spare you,

but I will punish you for your ways

and for the abominations among you.

Then you will know that I am the LORD.’

4And My eye will not have pity on you, and I will not have pity; for your ways I will recompense against you, and for your abominations that are in your midst. And you will know that I am YHWH.’

5This is what the Lord GOD says:

‘Disaster! An unprecedented disaster—

behold, it is coming!

5Thus says the Lord YHWH: ‘Disaster! A unique disaster! Behold, it is coming!

6The end has come!

The end has come!

It has roused itself against you.

Behold, it has come!

6An end has come; the end has come! It has roused itself against you. Behold, it is coming.

7Doom has come to you,

O inhabitants of the land.

The time has come;

the day is near;

there is panic on the mountains

instead of shouts of joy.

7Doom has come to you, O dweller of the land; the time has come, the day is near—of tumult, and not of rejoicing in the mountains!

8Very soon I will pour out My wrath upon you

and vent My anger against you;

I will judge you according to your ways

and repay you for all your abominations.

8Now soon I will pour out My fury upon you, and will complete My anger My anger; and I will judge you according to your ways, and I will recompense upon you for all your abominations.

9I will not look on you with pity,

nor will I spare you,

but I will punish you for your ways

and for the abominations among you.

Then you will know that it is I, the LORD,

who strikes the blow.

9And My eye will not have pity, and I will not have pity; according to your ways I will recompense upon you, and your abominations will be in your midst. And you will know that I am YHWH, the One striking.

10Behold, the day is here!

It has come!

Doom has gone out,

the rod has budded,

arrogance has bloomed.

10Behold, the day! Behold, it is coming! The doom has gone forth, the rod has blossomed, the arrogance has budded.

11Their violence has grown into a rod

to punish their wickedness.

None of them will remain:

none of their multitude,

none of their wealth,

and nothing of value.

11Violence has risen up into a rod of wickedness—none of them, and none of their multitude, and none of their wealth, and nothing of eminence among them.

12The time has come;

the day has arrived.

Let the buyer not rejoice

and the seller not mourn,

for wrath is upon the whole multitude.

12The time has come, the day has drawn near! Let the buyer not rejoice, and let the seller not mourn; for wrath is upon all their multitude.

13The seller will surely not recover what he sold

while both remain alive.

For the vision concerning the whole multitude

will not be revoked,

and because of their iniquity,

not one of them will preserve his life.

13For the one selling will not return to what has been sold while they live their life; for the vision is to the whole multitude, and it will not turn back; and a man cannot by his iniquity strengthen his life.

The Desolation of Israel

14They have blown the trumpet

and made everything ready,

but no one goes to war,

for My wrath is upon the whole multitude.

14They have blown on the trumpet, and made ready everything; and there is not one going to the battle, for My wrath is against all their multitude.

15The sword is outside;

plague and famine are within.

Those in the country will die by the sword,

and those in the city will be devoured

by famine and plague.

15The sword is is outside, and pestilence and famine inside the house. The one who is in the field will die by the sword, and the one who is in the city, famine and pestilence will devour him.

16The survivors will escape

and live in the mountains,

moaning like doves of the valley,

each for his own iniquity.

16And their fugatives will escape, and they will be on the mountains like doves of the valleys, all of them mourning, each one for his iniquity.

17Every hand will go limp,

and every knee will turn to water.

17Every hand will go limp, and every knee will go as waters.

18They will put on sackcloth,

and terror will overwhelm them.

Shame will cover all their faces,

and all their heads will be shaved.

18And they will be girded with sackcloth, and shuddering will cover them; and on every face is shame, and on all their heads baldness.

19They will throw their silver into the streets,

and their gold will seem unclean.

Their silver and gold cannot save them

in the day of the wrath of the LORD.

They cannot satisfy their appetites

or fill their stomachs with wealth,

for it became the stumbling block

that brought their iniquity.

19Their silver they will throw into the streets, and their gold will become like refuse; their silver and their gold will not be able to deliver them on the day of the wrath of YHWH. Their souls they cannot satisfy, and their stomachs they cannot fill, for a stumbling block their iniquity has become.

20His beautiful ornaments

they transformed into pride

and used them to fashion

their vile images and detestable idols.

Therefore I will make these

into something unclean for them.

20And the beauty of His ornament, in majesty he set it, and the images of their abominations, their detestable things they made with it. Upon thus I have made it for them like refuse.

21And I will hand these things over

as plunder to foreigners

and loot to the wicked of the earth,

who will defile them.

21And I will give it into the hands of strangers as plunder, and to the wicked of the earth as spoil, and they will defile it.

22I will turn My face away from them,

and they will defile My treasured place.

Violent men will enter it,

and they will defile it.

22And I will turn away My face from them, and they will defile My treasured place—and robbers will come into it, and they will defile it!

23Forge the chain,

for the land is full of crimes of bloodshed,

and the city is full of violence.

23Make a chain! For the land is filled with with the judgment of blood, and the city is full of violence.

24So I will bring the most wicked of nations

to take possession of their houses.

I will end the pride of the mighty,

and their holy places will be profaned.

24And I will bring the evil of the nations, and they will possess their houses; and I will cause to cease the pride of the strong, and their holy places will be defiled.

25Anguish is coming!

They will seek peace, but find none.

25Anguish comes, and they will seek peace and there is none.

26Disaster upon disaster will come,

and rumor after rumor.

Then they will seek a vision from a prophet,

but instruction from the priests will perish,

as will counsel from the elders.

26Disaster upon disaster will come, and rumor will be upon rumor; and they will seek a vision from a prophet, and the law will perish from the priest, and counsel from the elders.

27The king will mourn,

the prince will be clothed with despair,

and the hands of the people of the land will tremble.

I will deal with them according to their conduct,

and I will judge them by their own standards.

Then they will know that I am the LORD.’”

27The king will mourn, and the prince will be clothed with desolation, and the hands of the people of the land will tremble; according to their own way I will deal with them, and by their own judgment I will judge them; and they will know that I am YHWH.’”
