Joshua 13

Lands Yet Unconquered

1Now Joshua was old and well along in years, and the LORD said to him, “You are old and well along in years, but very much of the land remains to be possessed.

1And Joshua was old, advanced in years, and YHWH said to him, “You are old, advanced in years, and very much of the land remains to be possessed.

2This is the land that remains:

All the territory of the Philistines and the Geshurites,

2This is the land that remains: All the territory of the Philistines and all of the Geshurite,

3from the Shihor east of Egypt to the territory of Ekron on the north (considered to be Canaanite territory)—that of the five Philistine rulers of Gaza, Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gath, and Ekron, as well as that of the Avvites;

3from Shihor, which is upon the face of Egypt, and as far as the border of Ekron northward, to the Canaanite it is reckoned; the five lords of the Philistines—the Gazite, and the Ashdodite, the Ashkelonite, the Gittite, and the Ekronite; and the Avite;

4to the south, all the land of the Canaanites, from Mearah of the Sidonians to Aphek, as far as the border of the Amorites;

4from the south, all the land of the Canaanite, and Mearah, that is to the Sidonians, as far as Aphek, to the border of the Amorite;

5the land of the Gebalites;

and all Lebanon to the east, from Baal-gad below Mount Hermon to Lebo-hamath.

5and the land of the Gebalites; and all Lebanon toward the rising of the sun, from Baal-gad below Mount Hermon to the entrance to Hamath.

6All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon to Misrephoth-maim—all the Sidonians—I Myself will drive out before the Israelites. Be sure to divide it by lot as an inheritance to Israel, as I have commanded you.

6All those dwelling in the hill country from Lebanon as far as Misrephoth-maim—all the Sidonians—I will drive them out from before the sons of Israel; only divide it by lot to Israel as an inheritance, as I have commanded you.

7Now therefore divide this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh.”

7And now divide this land as an inheritance to the nine tribes and the half-tribe of Manasseh.”

The Inheritance East of the Jordan

8The other half of Manasseh, along with the Reubenites and Gadites, had received the inheritance Moses had given them beyond the Jordan to the east, just as Moses the servant of the LORD had assigned to them:

8With it, the Reubenite and the Gadite received their inheritance, which Moses had given them beyond the Jordan eastward, as Moses the servant of YHWH had given to them:

9The area from Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Valley, along with the city in the middle of the valley, the whole plateau of Medeba as far as Dibon,

9From Aroer which is on the bank of the River Arnon, and the town that is in the midst of the valley, and all the plain of Medeba as far as Dibon;

10and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites who reigned in Heshbon, as far as the border of the Ammonites;

10and all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorite, who reigned in Heshbon, as far as the border of the sons of Ammon;

11also Gilead and the territory of the Geshurites and Maacathites, all of Mount Hermon, and all Bashan as far as Salecah—

11and Gilead, and the border of the Geshurite and Maachathite, and all of Mount Hermon, and all of Bashan as far as Salcah—

12the whole kingdom of Og in Bashan, who had reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei and had remained as a remnant of the Rephaim.

Moses had struck them down and dispossessed them,

12all the kingdom of Og in Bashan, who reigned in Ashtaroth and Edrei; he remained of the remnant of the Rephaim, for Moses had defeated and dispossessed them.

13but the Israelites did not drive out the Geshurites or the Maacathites. So Geshur and Maacath dwell among the Israelites to this day.

13And the sons of Israel did not drive out the Geshurite or the Maachathite, and the Geshurite and Maacah dwell in the midst of Israel until this day.

14To the tribe of Levi, however, Moses had given no inheritance. The food offerings to the LORD, the God of Israel, are their inheritance, just as He had promised them.

14Only to the tribe of Levi he had given no inheritance; the fire offerings of YHWH, God of Israel, are their inheritance, as He said to them.

Reuben’s Inheritance

15This is what Moses had given to the clans of the tribe of Reuben:

15And Moses had given to the tribe of the sons of Reuben by their clans.

16The territory from Aroer on the rim of the Arnon Valley, along with the city in the middle of the valley, to the whole plateau beyond Medeba,

16And their territory was from Aroer which is on the bank of the River Arnon, and the city that is in the midst of the valley, and all the plain by Medeba,

17to Heshbon and all its cities on the plateau, including Dibon, Bamoth-baal, Beth-baal-meon,

17Heshbon and all its cities that are in the plain, Dibon, and Bamoth-baal, and Beth-baal-meon,

18Jahaz, Kedemoth, Mephaath,

18and Jahaz, and Kedemoth, and Mephaath,

19Kiriathaim, Sibmah, Zereth-shahar on the hill in the valley,

19and Kiriathaim, and Sibmah, and Zereth-shahar on the hill in the valley,

20Beth-peor, the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth—

20and Beth-peor, and the slopes of Pisgah, and Beth-jeshimoth,

21all the cities of the plateau and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites, who reigned in Heshbon until Moses killed him and the chiefs of Midian (Evi, Rekem, Zur, Hur, and Reba), the princes of Sihon who lived in the land.

21and all the cities of the plain, and all the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorite, who reigned in Heshbon, whom Moses had struck, and with it the princes of Midian (Evi, and Rekem, and Zur, and Hur, and Reba), princes of Sihon dwelling in the land.

22The Israelites also killed the diviner Balaam son of Beor along with the others they put to the sword.

22And Balaam son of Beor, the soothsayer, the sons of Israel killed with the sword, among those who were killed by them.

23And the border of the Reubenites was the bank of the Jordan.

This was the inheritance of the clans of the Reubenites, including the cities and villages.

23And the border of the sons of Reuben was the Jordan and its bank. This was the inheritance of the sons of Reuben by their clans, the cities and their villages.

Gad’s Inheritance

24This is what Moses had given to the clans of the tribe of Gad:

24And Moses had given to the tribe of Gad, to the sons of Gad by their clans.

25The territory of Jazer, all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the Ammonites as far as Aroer, near Rabbah;

25And their territory was Jazer, and all the cities of Gilead, and half the land of the Ammonites, as far as Aroer which is upon the face of Rabbah;

26the territory from Heshbon to Ramath-mizpeh and Betonim, and from Mahanaim to the border of Debir;

26and from Heshbon to Ramath-mizpeh and Betonim, and from Mahanaim to the border of Debir;

27and in the valley, Beth-haram, Beth-nimrah, Succoth, and Zaphon, with the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon (the territory on the east side of the Jordan up to the edge of the Sea of Chinnereth).

27and in the valley, Beth-haram, and Beth-nimrah, and Succoth, and Zaphon, the rest of the kingdom of Sihon king of Heshbon (with the Jordan as its border as far as the edge of the Sea of Chinnereth) on the other side of the Jordan eastward.

28This was the inheritance of the clans of the Gadites, including the cities and villages.

28This is the inheritance of the sons of Gad by their clans, the cities and their villages.

Manasseh’s Eastern Inheritance

29This is what Moses had given to the clans of the half-tribe of Manasseh, that is, to half the tribe of the descendants of Manasseh:

29And Moses had given to the half-tribe of Manasseh, and it was for the half-tribe of the sons of Manasseh by their clans.

30The territory from Mahanaim through all Bashan—all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, including all the towns of Jair that are in Bashan, sixty cities;

30And their territory was from Mahanaim all Bashan, all the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, and all the towns of Jair which are in Bashan, sixty cities;

31half of Gilead; and Ashtaroth and Edrei, the royal cities of Og in Bashan.

All this was for the clans of the descendants of Machir son of Manasseh, that is, half of the descendants of Machir.

31and half of Gilead, and Ashtaroth, and Edrei, cities of the kingdom of Og in Bashan, were for the sons of Machir son of Manasseh, for half of the sons of Machir by their clans.

32These were the portions Moses had given them on the plains of Moab beyond the Jordan, east of Jericho.

32These are that which Moses had distributed as an inheritance in the plains of Moab, on the other side of the Jordan by Jericho eastward.

33To the tribe of Levi, however, Moses had given no inheritance. The LORD, the God of Israel, is their inheritance, just as He had promised them.

33And to the tribe of Levi, Moses had given no inheritance; YHWH, God of Israel, was their inheritance, as He had said to them.
