Luke 12
The Leaven of the Pharisees
1In the meantime, a crowd of many thousands had gathered, so that they were trampling one another. Jesus began to speak first to His disciples: “Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
1In these times, the myriads of the crowd having been gathered together so as to trample upon one another, He began to say to His disciples first, “Take heed to yourselves of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.
3What you have spoken in the dark will be heard in the daylight, and what you have whispered in the inner rooms will be proclaimed from the housetops.
3Instead, whatever you said in the darkness will be heard in the light, and what you spoke to the ear in the inner rooms will be proclaimed upon the housetops.

The Parable of the Rich Fool
15And He said to them, “Watch out! Guard yourselves against every form of greed, for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.”
15And He said to them, “Beware, and keep yourselves from all covetousness, because not to anyone is his life in the abundance of that which he possesses.”
Do Not Worry
24Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storehouse or barn; yet God feeds them. How much more valuable you are than the birds!
24Consider the ravens, that they do not sow nor reap; unto them there is not a storehouse nor a barn—and God feeds them. How much more valuable are you than the birds!
28If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the furnace, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith!
28But if God thus clothes the grass in the field, being here today and tomorrow being thrown into the furnace, how much more you, O little of faith!
Treasures in Heaven
33Sell your possessions and give to the poor. Provide yourselves with purses that will not wear out, an inexhaustible treasure in heaven, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys.
33Sell your possessions and give alms; make for yourselves purses not growing old, an unfailing treasure in the heavens, where thief does not draw near, nor does moth destroy.
Readiness at Any Hour
36Then you will be like servants waiting for their master to return from the wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks, they can open the door for him at once.
36and you be like men waiting for their master when he shall return from the wedding feasts, that, having come and having knocked, immediately they might open to him.
37Blessed are those servants whom the master finds on watch when he returns. Truly I tell you, he will dress himself to serve and will have them recline at the table, and he himself will come and wait on them.
37Blessed are those servants whom, having come, the master will find watching. Truly I say to you that he will gird himself and will make them recline, and having come up, will serve them.
42And the Lord answered, “Who then is the faithful and wise manager, whom the master puts in charge of his servants to give them their portion at the proper time?
42And the Lord said, “Who then is the faithful, wise manager, whom the master will set over the care of his, to give in season the grain measure?
45But suppose that servant says in his heart, ‘My master will be a long time in coming,’ and he begins to beat the menservants and maidservants, and to eat and drink and get drunk.
45But if that servant should say in his heart, ‘My master delays to come,’ and should begin to beat the menservants and the maidservants, and to eat and to drink and to get drunk,
46The master of that servant will come on a day he does not expect and at an hour he does not anticipate. Then he will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the unbelievers.
46the master of that servant will come in a day that he does not expect and in an hour that he does not know, and he will cut him in two and will appoint his portion with the unbelievers.
48But the one who unknowingly does things worthy of punishment will be beaten with few blows. From everyone who has been given much, much will be required; and from him who has been entrusted with much, even more will be demanded.
48But the one not having known but having done things worthy of stripes will be beaten with few. And of everyone to whom much was given, much will be required; and from him to whom much was committed, more will they ask of him.
Not Peace but Division
53They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against mother-in-law.”a
53They will be divided, father against son and son against father, mother against the daughter and daughter against the mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against the mother-in-law.”
Interpreting the Present Time
Reconciling with an Adversary
58Make every effort to reconcile with your adversary while you are on your way to the magistrate. Otherwise, he may drag you off to the judge, and the judge may hand you over to the officer, and the officer may throw you into prison.
58For as you are going with your adversary before a ruler, give effort to be set free from him in the way, lest ever he should drag you away to the judge, and the judge will deliver you to the officer, and the officer will cast you into prison.
