Jesus Begins His Ministry
The Rejection at Nazareth
16Then Jesus came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up. As was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath. And when He stood up to read,
16And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and according to His custom, He entered into the synagogue on the day of the Sabbaths, and He rose up to read.
18“The Spirit of the Lord is on Me,
because He has anointed Me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent Me to proclaim liberty to the captivesa
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to release the oppressed,
18“The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because of which He anointed Me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim deliverance to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind, to send forth the oppressed in deliverance,
23Jesus said to them, “Surely you will quote this proverb to Me: ‘Physician, heal yourself! Do here in Your hometown what we have heard that You did in Capernaum.’”
23And He said to them, “Surely you will say to Me this parable: ‘Physician, heal yourself! Whatsoever we heard was done in Capernaum, do also here in Your hometown.’”
25But I tell you truthfully that there were many widows in Israel in the time of Elijah, when the sky was shut for three and a half years and great famine swept over all the land.
25And in truth I say to you, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the sky was shut up for three years and six months, when a great famine came upon all the land.
Jesus Expels an Unclean Spirit
35But Jesus rebuked the demon. “Be silent!” He said. “Come out of him!” At this, the demon threw the man down before them all and came out without harming him.
35And Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silenced, and come out from him!” And having thrown him into the midst, the demon came out from him, in nothing having hurt him.
36All the people were overcome with amazement and asked one another, “What is this message? With authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!”
36And amazement came upon all, and they were speaking together with one another, saying, “What word is this, that with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out?”
Jesus Heals at Peter’s House
38After Jesus had left the synagogue, He went to the home of Simon, whose mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever. So they appealed to Jesus on her behalf,
38And having arisen out of the synagogue, He entered into the house of Simon. And Simon’s mother-in-law was oppressed with a great fever, and they asked Him concerning her.
40At sunset, all who were ill with various diseases were brought to Jesus, and laying His hands on each one, He healed them.
40And at the setting of the sun, all, as many as had any ailing with various diseases, brought them to Him. And He, having laid the hands on each one of them, was healing them.
41Demons also came out of many people, shouting, “You are the Son of God!” But He rebuked the demons and would not allow them to speak, because they knew He was the Christ.
41Now demons also were going out from many, crying out and saying, “You are the Son of God!” And rebuking them, He was not allowing them to speak, because they knew Him to be the Christ.
Jesus Preaches in Judea
42At daybreak, Jesus went out to a solitary place, and the crowds were looking for Him. They came to Him and tried to keep Him from leaving.
42And day having come, having gone out, He went into a solitary place. And the crowds were seeking Him, and they came up to Him and were detaining Him not to go from them.
