Psalm 2

The Triumphant Messiah

1Why do the nations rage

and the peoples plot in vain?

1Why do the nations rage, and the peoples plot in vain?

2The kings of the earth take their stand

and the rulers gather together,

against the LORD

and against His Anointed One:

2The kings of the earth take their stand, and the rulers establish themselves together against YHWH and against His Anointed:

3“Let us break Their chains

and cast away Their cords.”

3“Let us tear off their bonds, and cast away from us their cords.”

4The One enthroned in heaven laughs;

the Lord taunts them.

4The One sitting in the heavens laughs; the Lord scoffs at them.

5Then He rebukes them in His anger,

and terrifies them in His fury:

5Then He speaks to them in His anger, and in his fury He terrifies them:

6“I have installed My King on Zion,

upon My holy mountain.”

6“And I have installed My King on Zion, the mountain of My holiness.”

7I will proclaim the decree

spoken to Me by the LORD:

“You are My Son;

today I have become Your Father.

7I will recount the decree of YHWH; He has said to Me: “You are My Son; today I have begotten You.

8Ask Me, and I will make the nations Your inheritance,

the ends of the earth Your possession.

8Ask from Me and I will give the nations as Your inheritance, and the ends of the earth for Your possession.

9You will break them with an iron scepter;

You will shatter them like pottery.”

9You will break them with a rod of iron; You will shatter them like a vessel of a potter.”

10Therefore be wise, O kings;

be admonished, O judges of the earth.

10And now, O kings, be prudent; be admonished, O judges of the earth.

11Serve the LORD with fear,

and rejoice with trembling.

11Serve YHWH with fear, and rejoice with trembling.

12Kiss the Son, lest He be angry

and you perish in your rebellion,

when His wrath ignites in an instant.

Blessed are all who take refuge in Him.

12Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, and you perish in the way, when His wrath is kindled in an instant. Blessed are all those taking refuge in Him.
