Psalm 120

In My Distress I Cried to the LORD

1A song of ascents.

In my distress I cried to the LORD,

and He answered me.

1A Song of the Ascents. To YHWH, in the distress for me, I cried out, and He answered me.

2Deliver my soul, O LORD,

from lying lips and a deceitful tongue.

2O YHWH, deliver my soul from a lip of falsehood, from a tongue of deceit!

3What will He do to you,

and what will be added to you,

O deceitful tongue?

3What will He give to you, or what will He add to you, O tongue of deceit?

4Sharp arrows will come from the warrior,

with burning coals of the broom tree!

4The sharpened arrows of a mighty one, with the burning coals of broom trees!

5Woe to me that I dwell in Meshech,

that I live among the tents of Kedar!

5Woe to me for I have sojourned in Mesech; I have dwelt among the tents of Kedar!

6Too long have I dwelt

among those who hate peace.

6Too much has dwelt my soul with the one hating peace!

7I am in favor of peace;

but when I speak, they want war.

7I am peace, and when I speak, they are for war.
