1A Psalm of Asaph.
The Mighty One, God the LORD,
speaks and summons the earth
from where the sun rises to where it sets.
1A Psalm of Asaph. God of gods, YHWH, speaks and calls the earth, from the rising of the sun to the going down.
2From Zion, perfect in beauty,
God shines forth.
2From Zion, the perfection of beauty, God shines forth.
3Our God approaches and will not be silent!
Consuming fire precedes Him,
and a tempest rages around Him.
3Our God comes and will not be silent; before His face a fire devours, and all around Him it will storm exceedingly.
4He summons the heavens above,
and the earth, that He may judge His people:
4He calls to the heavens from above, and to the earth, for the judging of His people:
5“Gather to Me My saints,
who made a covenant with Me by sacrifice.”
5“Gather to Me My holy ones, those having cut a covenant with Me by sacrifice.”
6And the heavens proclaim His righteousness,
for God Himself is Judge.a

6And let the heavens declare His righteousness—for God Himself is Judge. Selah
7“Hear, O My people, and I will speak,
O Israel, and I will testify against you:
I am God, your God.
7“Hear, O My people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against you: I am God, your God.
8I do not rebuke you for your sacrifices,
and your burnt offerings are ever before Me.
8It is not over your sacrifices that I rebuke you, or your burnt offerings before me continually.
9I have no need for a bull from your stall
or goats from your pens,
9I will not take a bull from your house or male goats from your folds.
10for every beast of the forest is Mine—
the cattle on a thousand hills.
10For every living thing of the forest is unto Me, and the cattle on a thousand hills.
11I know every bird in the mountains,
and the creatures of the field are Mine.
11I know every bird of the mountains, and the wild beast of the field is unto Me.
12If I were hungry, I would not tell you,
for the world is Mine, and the fullness thereof.
12If I were hungry, I would not say it to you, for the world and its fullness is to Me.
13Do I eat the flesh of bulls,
or drink the blood of goats?
13Do I eat the flesh of bulls, and do I drink the blood of goats?
14Sacrifice a thank offering to God,
and fulfill your vows to the Most High.
14Make a sacrifice of thanksgiving to God, and fulfill to the Most High your vows.
15Call upon Me in the day of trouble;
I will deliver you, and you will honor Me.”
15And call on Me in the day of distress, and I will rescue you, and you will glorify Me.”
16To the wicked, however, God says,
“What right have you to recite My statutes
and to bear My covenant on your lips?
16And to the wicked God says, “What to you is to recount My statutes, and to lift up My covenant upon your mouth?
17For you hate My instruction
and cast My words behind you.
17And you have hated instruction, and cast My words behind you!
18When you see a thief, you befriend him,
and throw in your lot with adulterers.
18If you see a thief, then you are pleased with him, and your portion is with those committing adultery.
19You unleash your mouth for evil
and harness your tongue to deceit.
19With your mouth you send forth evil, and your tongue weaves deceit.
20You sit and malign your brother;
you slander your own mother’s son.
20You sit against your brother and speak; against the son of your mother you place fault.
21You have done these things, and I kept silent;
you thought I was just like you.a
But now I rebuke you
and accuse you to your face.b
21These things you have done, and I kept silent; you thought I was just like you. I will rebuke you and set in array before your eyes.
22Now consider this, you who forget God,
lest I tear you to pieces,
with no one to rescue you:
22Understand this, please, you forgetting God, lest I tear you in pieces, and there is no one to deliver!
23He who sacrifices a thank offering honors Me,
and to him who rightly orders his way,
I will show the salvation of God.”
23The one making a sacrifice of thanksgiving honors Me, and he who sets his path, I will make to look on the salvation of God.”
