Psalm 72

Endow the King with Your Justice

1Of Solomon.

Endow the king with Your justice, O God,

and the son of the king with Your righteousness.

1Of Solomon. O God, give Your judgments to the king, and Your justice to the son of the king.

2May he judge Your people with righteousness

and Your afflicted with justice.

2May he judge Your people with righteousness, and Your lowly ones with judgment.

3May the mountains bring peace to the people,

and the hills bring righteousness.

3The mountains will carry peace to the people, and the hills justice.

4May he vindicate the afflicted among the people;

may he save the children of the needy

and crush the oppressor.

4He will judge for the lowly ones of the people; he will save the sons of the needy, and will crush the one oppressing.

5May they fear him as long as the sun shines,

as long as the moon remains,

through all generations.

5They will fear You with the sun, and before the face of the moon, from generation to generations.

6May he be like rain that falls on freshly cut grass,

like spring showers that water the earth.

6He will come down like rain upon freshly cut grass, like showers dropping on the earth.

7May the righteous flourish in his days

and prosperity abound

until the moon is no more.

7In his days the righteous will sprout forth, and an abundance of peace, until the moon is no more.

8May he rule from sea to sea,

and from the Euphrates to the ends of the earth.

8And he will rule from sea to sea, and from the River to the ends of the earth.

9May the nomads bow before him,

and his enemies lick the dust.

9Before him the desert dwellers will bow down, and his enemies will lick the dust.

10May the kings of Tarshish and distant shores bring tribute;

may the kings of Sheba and Seba offer gifts.

10The kings of Tarshish and the isles will return a gift; the kings of Sheba and Seba will bring near a gift.

11May all kings bow down to him

and all nations serve him.

11And all kings will bow low before him; all nations will serve him!

12For he will deliver the needy who cry out

and the afflicted who have no helper.

12For he will deliver the needy one crying out, and the poor one without a helper to him.

13He will take pity on the poor and needy

and save the lives of the oppressed.

13He will have pity on the poor and needy, and he will save the souls of the needy.

14He will redeem them from oppression and violence,

for their blood is precious in his sight.

14From oppression and from violence he will redeem their soul, and their blood will be precious in his eyes.

15Long may he live!

May gold from Sheba be given him.

May people ever pray for him;

may they bless him all day long.

15Long may he live, and it shall be given to him from the gold of Sheba; and prayer shall be made for him continually; all the day he shall be blessed.

16May there be an abundance of grain in the land;

may it sway atop the hills.

May its fruit trees flourish like the forests of Lebanon,

the people of its cities like the grass of the field.

16There shall be an abundance of grain in the land; on the top of the mountains it shall wave, its fruit like Lebanon; and the people of the city shall flourish like the grass of the earth.

17May his name endure forever;

may his name continue as long as the sun shines.

In him may all nations be blessed;

may they call him blessed.

17His name shall be forever; unto the turning of the sun his name shall increase; and all nations shall be blessed in him, they shall call him blessed.

18Blessed be the LORD God, the God of Israel,

who alone does marvelous deeds.

18Blessed be YHWH God, the God of Israel, the One doing marvelous deeds—Him alone!

19And blessed be His glorious name forever;

may all the earth be filled with His glory.

Amen and amen.

19And blessed be the name of His glory forever;. And let all the earth be filled with His glory! Amen and Amen.
